Overview
How we help.
Business and asset valuation looks like a technical exercise but is almost always a strategic one. The methodology, the assumptions and the presentation all depend on what the valuation is for — a transaction, a tax position, a dispute, financial reporting, or a restructure. The same business can have meaningfully different defensible values depending on the purpose, and getting the purpose right is the most important decision in the engagement.
Corson Fiske provides independent valuation services for transactions, tax matters, disputes, succession planning, employee share schemes, financial reporting and restructuring. Our work is delivered to the standards of APES 225 (Valuation Services) and, where required for proceedings, the Harmonised Expert Witness Code of Conduct.
We are particularly active in mid-market and private company valuations where the technical challenge is compounded by limited comparable data, owner-operator dependencies and historical accounting that needs adjustment before reliable analysis is possible. These are the valuations that reward senior judgement over template-driven methodology.

Client Situations
When clients engage us.
Most valuation engagements begin with a specific purpose and a deadline.
A transaction is being negotiated
A sale, acquisition or capital raise is underway and independent valuation is needed to support negotiation, diligence or board approval.
A tax position requires valuation support
CGT, Division 7A, employee share scheme or restructure relief provisions require defensible contemporaneous valuation.
An employee equity plan is being established
Share options, performance rights or a direct equity grant need valuation for accounting and tax purposes.
A dispute requires an independent expert
A commercial dispute, family law matter or shareholder claim requires a valuation expert whose report will withstand court scrutiny.

Why Corson Fiske
Valuations that reflect commercial reality.
Most valuation work is template-driven — a DCF, a handful of comparables, an adjustment for size and marketability, and a number at the end. That approach is fine for the easy matters, but it fails on the ones that actually matter: contested valuations, illiquid private businesses, high-growth technology companies, and situations where the purpose of the valuation affects the methodology itself.
Our approach is partner-led and commercially grounded. We start with the purpose, work backwards to the methodology, and explain the assumptions in a way that makes the conclusion defensible. Because we sit inside an integrated firm, our valuation work is informed by colleagues in tax, restructuring and corporate finance when the matter needs their input.
